Goalie Wire – Atlanta

Atlanta has youngster Kari Lehtonen taking the helm for the first time… hopefully this year barring injury.  With Johan the Great assuming the back-up position, veteran Fred Brathwaite has been pushed onto the waiver wire.

Hedberg is considered a great teammate and back-up goaltender.  It’s no surprise to me that he beat out Brathwaite to make the team.

However, Atlanta has had a history of injuries, so this is probably not the last the NHL sees of Freddie Brathwaite either.

If Lehtenon goes down with injury again this season though, you should expect to see Waddell make a deal for another starter on a short term contract to get him through the rest of the season.  Atlanta needs to make the playoffs this season or there will be major changes coming next summer.
