Game File 8: Canucks 3 Blues 2 (OT)

The Good

A win against the St. Louis Blues, something that they could not accomplish last year.

Shots shots and more shots.  39 shots on net, and only 19 against.  Those are the types of statistics that come from strong team efforts.

Huge pressure other than the last 14 minutes of the first period which was entirely due to the run of penalties.

The Bad

It took over 3o shots on net to get their second goal.  There was major offensive pressure, yet the lack of any finish almost left them without any points in this game.

The first period was completely frustrating as the Canucks spent most of it on the penalty kill.  They finished the period down one goal despite having started the game with six minutes of pressure, tallying 7 shots on net and none against.  By the end of the period they held the edge in shots, but only just barely, finishing with 9 and 7 against.

The Ugly

One goal against on their first shot against.  That is two games in a row now.

Other Notes

Did anybody else get scared when Ohlund got nailed on the end boards.  I can’t believe he got up from that hit.  Not only was it scary because of his positioning, but also because of the speed at which he was hit.

Go figure, Taylor Pyatt ends up on the power play with the Sedins and pots his third goal of the season.  Something’s got to give with the line combinations and I think Pyatt on the Sedin line is looking pretty good.

Pyatt is now on pace for over 3o goals this year.  Two of his three goals have come when an opportunity presented himself to play with a Sedin.  imagine what he could do if you left him permanently on that line.

Then move Naslund back with Morrison and try wingers on that line.  Naslund is going to still make plays and get points.  Maybe not as many as with the Sedins, but if they can get some chemistry with another winger, we’d have two solid scoring lines.

Tonight really showed us that we still need to find an answer to this.
