Game File 15: Canucks 2 Avalanche 3

The Good

Alexander Edler made his debut in a Canuck Uniform tonight.  The 2004 draft pick was found in the backwoods of Sweden by the current Swedish scout and former Canuck center Thomas Gradin.

He impressed everyone greatly on his first game out.  Proven by the fact he was still getting shifts late in the third period.  His 13:16 of playing time was two more minutes that rookie Bourdon who has been averaging closer to ten in his first 8 games this season.

Ohlund and Bieksa played almost the entire two minutes of a 5 on 3 in the second period.  It was an amazing display by both of them.  Bieksa is proving himself to be worthy of top 4 minutes and seems as poised as any of the top 3 on the team.

Another very intense effort marked by 38 shots on net and an early lead.

The Bad

An inability to clear the zone led to the Avalanche’s third goal which marked the demise of the team for the night.

The colour commentator continuously got Bieksa’s name wrong by pronouncing it Bies-ka.  The game was irritating enough without him added that salt in the wounds.

The Ugly

38 shots on net…Good.

Another game with only two goals…Ugly.

Clearly the Canucks are going to have to push for closer to 50 shots on net every night if they want that third goal and a win every once in a while with the shooters they have.

I’m going to do a summary of the teams performance as at the end of this game early next week.  Right now, all I see is disappointment.

  1. Dave Says:

NEVER REALLY GET MAD ENOUGH TO SEND AN E-MAIL TO ANYONE, BUT
I SENT ONE TO THE SPORTS EDITOR AT THE DENVER POST AFTER I SAW
THE 3 STARS ON THE OFFICIAL NHL SCORESHEET.
    FYI — HERE’S WHAT I WROTE:
I’VE HEARD OF BIAS REPORTERS BUT TERRY’S FREI’S CHOICE OF 3 STARS IN LAST NIGHT’S AVALANCHE-CANUCKS GAME WAS A JOKE. WHAT GAME WAS HE WATCHING? THE CANUCKS OUTSHOT THE AVS 38-20 AND ALL-BUT-CONTROLLED PLAY IN THE FIRST PERIOD. UNLESS I’M MISTAKEN,
THERE WERE TWO TEAMS ON THE ICE LAST NIGHT. PLEASE LET MR. FREI KNOW THAT TODD BERTUZZI DOESN’T PLAY FOR THE CANUCKS ANYMORE, SO THE HOSTILITIES TOWARDS VANCOUVER CAN STOP AT ANYTIME.

  2. Theodore greatly deserved a star for keeping Colorado in the game.

Other than that, I’d say give one to Burnette because they won the game and he got two of their three goals…. I guess.

And because the Canucks put so much pressure on them, the other star absolutely should have gone to a Canuck.

About Terry Frei. I stopped reading his stuff about 10 months ago. I find his editorial’s uninformed and always off the mark.
