Game File 32: Canucks 3 Flames 1

The Good

There was only good tonight.  A win against a divisional opponent is huge.  They have definitely got some of their confidence back and are now showing some swagger.

I’ve been saying this for a while, they Canucks didn’t need a bunch more goals, only one more per game (3 per game).  They are now 8-2 on the season when they score 3 or more goals.

The goals were all awesome, but more than that, they also won battles for the puck.

As for Matt Cooke, other than his first couple years, I’ve not been a fan of his.  But tonight, he was classic Cookie.  Credit goes to where credit is due, and he did his job in getting the Calgary Flames off their game.

Was it just me, or did it look like Naslund was being called at from the bench when the lone goal was scored on them?  An odd play, but I wonder what happened to Naslund there.

As for Naslunds lack of point production lately, I think it may have a bit to do with 2 things.  First, with no other scoring on the team, opponents can almost solely focus their best defensive talent on him.  Second, well maybe he was just trying to do a bit too much on his own.

Bieksa seems to be stepping up more and more every game.  8 shots on net, a well deserved roughing call, and an immense presence again.

Another goal disallowed tonight on a phantom interference call.  The ref was not in a position to tell if Burrows touched the goalie or not and should not have made that decision on the ice.

I think that puts the Canucks tops in the league in disallowed goals.

For those of you on the Rory watch, he played 10:33 in his return tonight, while Green played 8:28 in his first after suffering a broken toe a few weeks back.  He is definitely playing in some pain, but it good to see him suck it up a bit and get back on the ice.

Next up: Another important divisional game, this time the Wild are coming to town.
