Game File 50: Canucks 3 Sharks 1

The Good

That game was all about Roberto.

The team got the needed three goals, and Luongo made save after save after save.

And the Canucks leapfrog Calgary for first overall in the division.

The Bad

I’ve been praising the Canucks new approach and adjustments they’ve made over the last 15 games or so.  It’s resulted in more goals, and that’s resulted in more wins for them.

But 33 shots against after two periods is pretty high.

Other Notes

San Jose has an amazing drafting record.  Just look at some of the recent additions on their team now:

Joe Pavelski – 18 points in 27 games as a rookie
Milan Michalek – 34 points in 45 games as a sophmore
Ryane Clowe – 20 points in 25 games as a rookie
Matt Carle – 24 points in 44 games as a rookie defenseman

Imagine if the Canucks had even one rookie that could have that kind of impact.  And that list doesn’t even include Steve Bernier who had 25 points in 39 games.  Apparently that wasn’t good enough for the Sharks, and they sent him down to the farm.

If Bernier was on the Canucks squad, his 11 goals would be tied for 4th on the team.

Bieksa was a surprise, and has done more than expected this year, but San Jose doesn’t even have enough room on their club for all them.

That would be a nice position to be in.

  1. Thanks, I didn’t know that about offer-sheets being admittedly a football guy trying to find my way in the hockey world.

Do you think Kesler is done in Vancouver? (assuming he doesn’t make it back for a playoff series)
