Game File 55: Canucks 0 Blackhawks 3

The Good

Kevin Bieksa is one of the toughest guys I’ve ever seen out on the ice for the Vancouver Canucks.  His tilt with Stewart was great.  The best shot was of Bieksa after the fight, you could still see the anger in his eyes.  He was some kind of mad.

The Bad

The Canucks are back into their bad habit of outshooting their opponent, but not creating enough scoring opportunities.

They allowed a goalie who hasn’t played in the NHL in almost a year, get a shut out.  The Canucks haven’t been shut out since December 21st in Boston.  That game was such a bore, I didn’t even write up a game review on it.

This game was worse.

But I’m going to give the team a one game pass (only because I wasn’t at GM Place and didn’t pay for a ticket) on this game because of their emotional win yesterday.

The Ugly

With Krajicek going down early last night, the remaining defenseman played huge minutes last night.  Today, Edler was called up and injected into the lineup.

But he only played 8 minutes and only 6 defenseman dressed.  This is a coaching decision.  It would have been better to call up and dress another defenseman tonight.

While these guys are professionals, they are not super heroes.  Part of Bieksa’s anger in that fight may have related to the fact his body just wasn’t capable after travel and a short night’s sleep only to play another big game at home.  He knows that and was clearly frustrated by his own play.

Blame the coach, they had options with this.

Other Notes

There isn’t much out there in the blogosphere from Blackhawks fans.  But I suspect that’s because the team has all but completely alienated themselves from the entire fan base.

But there is one place to go.  Check out wirtzsucks.  If you don’t already know, Bill Wirtz is the owner of the Chicago team, and is considered in some circles as the worst owner in sports.  It’s sad that the Canucks first ever draft pick, Dale Tallon, is now their GM.

On a similar note, is Chicago the new Wild?  That was a pathetic and repulsive display of talent from both teams.  It totally reminds me of every game the Canucks play against Minnesota.

One thing I hate about when a team is shut out, is that other teams usually look at those game tapes to see what the opposition did so well to keep them down.

Unfortunately for them, this should be an abberation for the Canucks, due only to time and circumstance.
