Game File 78: Canucks 2 Flames 3

March 31, 2007

The Good

That was an awesome game.  I know they lost, but they’re not going to win them all.

By the end of the night, the Canucks had almost double the Flames in shots on goal, 34-18.  They put on an amazing show all night, but their effort and push in the 3rd period was amazing.

Both goals scored by the Canucks were made on dirty, gutsy, and determined plays.  Morrison got himself right in front of the net and was able to put the puck in the net off a quick backhand pass from Cooke.

The Good

Records are breaking every game.  Tonight it was most for wins in a season with 47.  It’s amazing to see them do this.  We’ve had good teams in the last 15 years and it’s incredible to think that this is the best of them all.

Next up is their record 104 points set in 2004-04.  They are at 101 right now with 5 games left.

Game File 76: Canucks 3 Avalanche 0

The Good

After two full years with no playoff action in Vancouver, the Canucks have clinched a spot and Roberto Luongo will be playing for a Stanley Cup for the first time in his career.

More importantly, this is a team that everyone should expect to go far.  And that’s not just wishful thinking this time around.

Canuck Musings

March 27, 2007

For all talk about initial chemistry with Smolinski and Naslund, it sure has ended up with very little to show for it.  I like the Smolinski/Naslund combo, which is why I like Vigneault’s latest lineup change.  He’s inserting the strong Jeff Cowan on the line, replacing the here and there Bulis.  It should open up a bit of ice for Naslund to make some nice moves and get some points on the board.

He’s had a lot of adversity to overcome this year.  After years of playing with Mo and Bert, he’s had anything but a consistent linemate this year.  He loved the consistency he got with those guys before.  And that’s been a very hard adjustment for him to make.  Add to that, his desire to lead this team the direction that Vigneault wants to bring it, and it’s almost double up the scoring issues.

Game File 75: Canucks 4 Avalanche 5 (SO)

The Good

We get to play these guys again in a couple nights.  I think it’s going to be hard for Colorado to keep up that kind of pace til the end of the season.  So we’ve got that going for us.

Aside from that, the first period was the beswt period for the Canucks tonight.  The Sedins were amazing with Pyatt tonight.  Hank breaks Boudrais 32 year old record tonight, and gets a standing O from the crowd.  That was a nice touch.  And Taylor Pyatt scores his 20th of the season for the first time in his career.

Game File 74: Canucks 2 Predators 0

The Good

This was an interesting game.  Despite Nashville depleted lineup, they still iced one of the most potent forwards in the league with Forsberg.  Even he was kept to the outside for most of the night.

The Canucks game plan is simple, let the other team take as many shots as they want from the outside.  Let them go crazy, Luongo can make that save all day long.  But tonight, Nashville didn’t go crazy and Luongo only had to make a few key saves to afford himself his 4th shutout of the season.

The Good

I am no longer MIA.  Sorry about being out of action for the last week.  And while I did get to two games this week (including tonight’s tilt), I have been less than inspired over the last few games.

But that’s not going to stop me from boldly making a prediction tonight.

I was at a dinner party last Saturday and a long time Canuck fan asked me how I felt about this year’s team.  People that know me ask me about the team a lot.  But he didn’t ask me in that generic tone, he had a sparkle in his eye when he asked, like he knew a secret.
