Game File 76: Canucks 3 Avalanche 0

The Good

After two full years with no playoff action in Vancouver, the Canucks have clinched a spot and Roberto Luongo will be playing for a Stanley Cup for the first time in his career.

More importantly, this is a team that everyone should expect to go far.  And that’s not just wishful thinking this time around.

Henrik picked up another couple assists tonight and Luongo is not at 44 wins on the season.  After a lacklustre first period for the entire team and tallying only 4 shots on net, Naslund came out in the second period and got 4 shots himself, and finished with 7 on the night.  He didn’t pick up a point tonight, but if he plays like that, it’s only a matter of time before he gets his game back.  And with Cowan now on his line, maybe it’s starting to pay Naslund some dividends.

The 5 on 3 opportunity gave the Canucks the needed goal to win.  The Sedins deserve full credit for not only pulling in the first call, but also working the puck, keeping control and getting  the second penalty called against Sakic.

And Rory, good for you for tackling Mclean after he completely interfered with Luongo.  Nice move.

The Bad

In the second period, the puck took a few crazy bounces that almost resulted in Canuck  goals.  Unfortunately, Bulis missed the net, and Henrik passed instead of shooting.

The Ugly

One day, Vigneault will hold Bulis accountable for his recent streak of untimely penalties.  Actually, there were simply too many penalties in the game being that there was none called until well into the second period.
