NEWCOMER – Curtis Sanford

Junior Team: Owen Sound Platers (OHL)

Notable Teammates: Adam Mair (Buffalo); Sean Avery (NY Rangers); Dan Snyder (RIP);

Best CHL Season: 56 GP, 30-16-5, 3.82 GAA

NHL Draft: Undrafted, first pro contract with Missouri River Otters (UHL) in 1999

Previous Teams: St. Louis Blues

Best NHL Season: 34 GP, 13-13-5. 2.66 GAA

Sanford was so excited to get offered a contract by the Canucks, that he didn’t even bother to ask how much he was going to play.  While that might worry you, knowing he seemed a bit desperate, remember this.

Sanford was undrafted, fought his way out of the UHL, into the ECHL, into the AHL, and eventually into the NHL.  He’s definately someone who knows what it takes to compete and has never had a free ride.

He seems to want to mentor under Luongo a bit.  He also seems to get injured when he plays a lot of games, but he won’t be playing many here, so we shouldn’t worry too much about that.

Just get used to seeing a different backup in Vancouver every year.  If the backup is good, they’ll want to go somewhere else to play more games.  If their not good, Nonis wouldn’t have them back anyways.  It will always be 1 year deals for low money as long as Luongo is here.

    It’s great to sign the players that are Canuck killers, Sanford has always had the Canucks #, in fact I don’t think we ever won a game against him. Brilliant signing by Nonis as long as he doesn’t re-injure himself.
